Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI)
At Habitat, we celebrate diversity, equity, and inclusion by cultivating a culturally-rich team that is respected and valued for who they are. We have been focused on hiring diverse talent for many years and have best practices in place to ensure our team is treated with respect and support. A diverse and inclusive culture is fundamental to who we are and have been for many years – we recognize the positive effect it has on all our team members as well as the success of our business.
We have a history of supporting the development and growth of Minority/Women-owned Business Enterprises (MWBE). Habitat not only recognizes the value of MWBEs; we also reinforce our commitment to fostering diversity and encouraging the minority business enterprise. An additional value-add is how MWBEs are well-connected in local businesses and have access to training programs, workshops, and mentorship programs that further infuse innovative strategies, cost-savings, and the ability to boost the bottom line.
Doing our part to strengthen the community in which we live and work is a piece that all our team members stand behind. One way we accomplish this is by partnering and supporting organizations like Cara Collective. Cara Collective aims to tirelessly break the cycle of poverty in underserved communities. They achieve this through a comprehensive training program that focuses on building unique strengths in the interest of finding the best pathway for those that have lost hope and confidence. Habitat is in full support of Cara Collective’s mission and has been the largest Employment Partner for the last 5 years.
We have also formed Generations Housing Initiatives (GHI), an organization that focuses on helping seniors live healthy, fulfilling, and independent lives in high-quality affordable housing environments.
Habitat has built a culture where everyone feels included. We also understand that an inclusive workplace is paramount in order to be successful, and it is an integral part of our culture. Harassment by co-workers, supervisors, or any third parties is a form of misconduct that destroys our work environment and undermines our integrity. Any Habitat team member found to be engaging in any type of unlawful discrimination will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Additionally, there is also a large push at Habitat to ensure that our team members’ voices are heard through surveys and platforms that allow our team to share their thoughts, concerns, or feedback on how we can continue to build upon our culture.
