FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

Where do I pick up a pre-application to get on a subsidized housing wait list when it opens?

Pre-applications will not be handed out. All pre-applications are available online and must be submitted online during the open period noted in the wait list opening announcement.

What if I don't have a computer?

Please go to your local library for internet access. Computers also will be available at the property's management office during the times noted in the wait list opening announcement.

What if I don't know how to use a computer or don't speak/read English?

You may have a friend, family member or translator assist you in completing the online pre-application. Assistance also will be available at the property's management office during the times noted in the wait list opening announcement.

Is the wait list first come, first served?

No, places on the wait list are assigned by a computer generated random lottery. It does not matter when you complete and submit the online pre-application, as long as it is during the open period noted in the wait list opening announcement.

Should I call to confirm that you received my pre-application?

No, please do not call to confirm receipt. Your printed pre-application receipt will serve as your confirmation. All pre-applications are processed online and included in the random lottery.

How will I be notified if I'm on the wait list?

If your household is randomly selected in the lottery, you will be notified in writing that you are on the wait list. If you were not selected, no written notification will be received.

What if I don't hear anything?

If you do not receive written confirmation that you are on the wait list, your household was not randomly selected in the lottery and you are not on the wait list.

When will I be called for a unit? How long is the wait?

Applicants who are on the wait list will be contacted when a unit becomes available and when their name reaches the top of the list. We cannot provide a specific time frame, since the availability of units depends on unit turnover.

How much is rent?

The amount of rent you pay is based on your income. Rent and utilities are calculated to be about 30 percent of your household income. The rental assistance is not transferable to any other property.

What are your Credit and/or Criminal Screening Requirements?

All members of the applicant's household must pass credit and criminal background screenings to qualify for housing. The specific guidelines for each property are detailed in its Tenant Selection Plan. A copy can be obtained by contacting the property's management office.

How do I report a change in my Household or change of address/phone?

Changes in household size, address or phone must be submitted in writing to the management office for the property wait list you are on. Your name will be removed from the Affordable Housing Wait List if the Post Office returns mail we have sent to you, so it is very important that you update us when you move or change telephone numbers.

Are pets allowed?

Every property has its own specific pet policy. Please contact the property directly to find out their policy.
